==Post-Government Career and Influence== After leaving office in 1953, Acheson resumed his law practice at Covington & Burling but remained a sought-after advisor. He counseled Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon on crises like the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam War escalation, and NATO restructuring. His 1969 memoir, Present at the Creation: My Years in the State Department, won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1970, offering a vivid account of his role in shaping the post-war order. A long-time member of the Council on Foreign Relations, he contributed to Foreign Affairs and co-founded the Committee on the Present Danger in 1950 to advocate robust anti-Soviet policies. Acheson mentored younger diplomats and remained a vocal defender of containment until his death.
